Chocolate Date Balls (Vegan, No Added Sugar)

Makes ±12–15 balls (depending on size) | Total time: 15–20 minutes

A naturally sweet, wholesome snack made with simple ingredients. Perfect for a quick energy boost or healthier treat.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup ground oats

  • 2–3 tbsp sugar-free nut butter (peanut, almond, or cashew)

  • 1 tbsp cacao powder

  • 175 g dates (pitted)

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds or flaxseeds (optional)

  • Optional: desiccated coconut (for rolling)


Instructions:

  1. Blend or grind oats into a flour consistency if not already ground.

  2. In a bowl, mix the ground oats, cacao powder, and chia or flaxseeds (if using).

  3. In a pan, gently heat the dates with a splash of water.

  4. Cook for a few minutes until soft and sticky.

  5. Add the dates and nut butter to the oat mixture.

  6. Mix well until a dough forms (add a small splash of water if needed).

  7. Roll into bite-sized balls using your hands.

  8. Optional: roll in desiccated coconut.

  9. Refrigerate for 20–30 minutes to firm up (optional but recommended).

  10. Rest for a few minutes before serving so the layers hold together.

  • No added sugar (sweetened naturally with dates)

  • Provides fibre from oats, dates, and seed

  • Nut butter adds healthy fats and a small protein boost

  • Great as a snack, lunchbox addition, or pre/post workout option
